About How Far-EastGifts.com Got Started
My name is TraderBill. TraderJane, my wife, and I own Far East Gifts–Yuan Dong Li Wu LLC. On the way to the Great Wall on my first trip to China to meet Traderjane, we stopped in a jade-cloisonné shop. Looking for small items to give as gifts to family and friends, we found small decorated cloisonné balls. We purchased three dozen. Giving them out to family, close friends and people I work with, the three dozen quickly disappeared. Family and friends showed their friends. Soon the telephone calls started from other individuals inquiring if I had any of the beautiful cloisonné balls, and could they purchase them. Arrangements were made for purchase of a small shipment of assorted cloisonné ornaments. Within hours of the shipment arriving, all the ornaments were sold. The result was the formation of Far East Gifts–Yuan Dong Li Wu LLC (Yuan Dong Li Wu translates from Chinese into Gifts from the East).Initially we sold wholesale, then moved on to sell at flea markets and craft shows. The next logical step was to open a website: Far-EastGifts.com.

About Travel ( Jan.-March,2008):
One of the highlights of Xi’an, China is Qin’s Terra Cotta Warriors. Discovered in the late Seventies, the Warriors are on every tour’s agenda that passes through Xi’an. Unknown to many tourists, nearby are the Imperial Hot Springs - Hua Qing Chi.  Nestled beneath the northern foot of Mt. Lishan, Hua Qing Chi offer travelers a unique glimpse into China’s ancient royalty. The entrance and exit area are hectic and somewhat crowded but once inside the visitor is treated to schools of Koi and Goldfish swimming in pools beneath ancient stone bridges.  Fountains and statuary adorn the walkway leading into the Ancient Springs. Native vegetation flourishes at every turn in the many paths that lead from building to building. It's well worth the time and effort to visit if you’re planning a trip to Xi’an.

The first Chinese glass artifacts date back to the Warring Period (481- 222BC). Cloisonné Art traces back to Egypt in 1800 BC, when the inlaying of colorful materials onto a metal base and securing their position with formed soldered wire first occurred. The Chinese created weapons with colored inlays containing patterns of turquoise and malachite during the Shang dynasty (1766 - 1122 BC). These were in fact, early cloisonné. In Ancient Greece during the 13th century BC, Greek artists filled cavities (Cells) made by filigree soldered wire with powdered glass to produce colorful decorative objects. From the Byzantine Empire, cloisonné art spread west into Europe and East through Russia into China along the Silk Road. Russian cloisonné from the Tsarist era is highly prized today.
